Bengaluru Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly sending rape threats and derogatory messages to popular Kannada actress Ramya on social media, following her comments related to the Renukaswamy murder case.

The arrests were made by the Cyber Crime Branch after Ramya lodged a formal complaint with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, stating that she had received obscene messages and threats online.

“CCB police collected messages and posts from 13 individuals. Our team is actively monitoring all related content,” Commissioner Singh said.

Ramya revealed that the online abuse began after she tweeted on July 24, expressing hope for justice in the Renukaswamy case following a Supreme Court observation criticizing the High Court’s decision to grant bail to actor Darshan, an accused in the case.

“I shared a news report and tweeted that the Supreme Court is a ray of hope for the common people. Soon after, I was targeted by trolls. Some even said that I should have been murdered instead of Renukaswamy,” Ramya told the media.

She added that she reported 43 of the most obscene accounts, although there were many more. “It’s about time someone stood up against this kind of harassment. This kind of behaviour reflects how low our society is sinking.”

Further investigation is underway to trace additional individuals involved in the online abuse.
